How to Sync Square Debit Card and Bill Pay Transactions with QuickBooks?

How are you able to sync Square debit card and bill pay transactions with QuickBooks? The current Square integration only imports sales, not expense or debt payments. Is there an option I am not aware of or middleware solution someone is using to do this? Today, we manually download and upload these transactions into Quickbooks to update our P&L and I want to automate it. What options are available? Thanks!!!

Hi there @baranpd83.  This will sound like a brush off, but it is not.  Square can not sync to Quickbooks.  Any syncing, etc, has to be initiated by Quickbooks using Square’s APIs.  So far, Quickbooks/Intuit has chosen not to add this to their third-party software app in the Square App Marketplace, as you know.  I would assume that Intuit and Square have coordinated about this, but the only people who can or will confirm that would be Intuit.

Just to be sure, I went to the Square App Marketplace to review the apps for keyword “Quickbooks.”  None of them that I could see offer anything except syncing for sales and deposits.  I can’t say for sure whether that is because Square doesn’t offer the APIs, yet, or if the third-party developers just haven’t yet integrated Square Checking and Bill Pay into their suites.  What I do know is that your question will be best answered by Intuit.

Also, I did check to see if the Plaid integration to Square Checking might help you.  Alas, I came up with the same result.  Currently Plaid only offers visibility and sync for sales and deposits — nothing else.

I’m sorry that I couldn’t post better news.

Hey @baranpd83,

Thanks for being a new member of the Community.

As @TheRealChipA mentioned above, if you're looking for a direct integration between Square Checking transactions (debit card and bill pay) and QuickBooks, it’s important to note that Square’s standard QuickBooks integration primarily focuses on sales. Therefore, expenses and payments made from your Square balance don’t automatically sync.

You can check out our QuickBooks integrations in our Square App Marketplace here.
