Canceling a check (Square Business Checking Acct)

The answers to this question have been frustrating. I have generated a check and have printed it, but decided not to continue in sending in the said check. Therefore, I want to cancel and have Square return it into my balance. However, despite what the site says, it's not giving me any option to cancel the check. Can anyone help me out here? Thank you in advance.

Solution

In response to my inquiry and for the benefit of the community, I want to address the only misleading and incorrect answer provided in the community so far.

The "button" to cancel physical checks that are generated by the Square user (by physical checks, are the checks you generate using the website and you print yourself), can be canceled a little more than 24 hours after the check was generated or created. It took approximately 1 business day to return the funds, and oddly enough after the return of the funds, the account was flagged. (Awaiting on resolution).

Nonetheless, Square should update that site to say that it takes approximately 24-48 hours until cancelation. However, even if this is the case, the account holders of the business checking account should reserve the right to retrieve their funds immediately. You should take all scenarios in consideration on why this applies, and why every other bank would have this system in place for fraudulent and clerical errors especially by small businesses.

Hi @arielg1

So according to this post, a check is not able to be cancelled at this time.  I don't use Square checking so I can not say if this has been updated or not.

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, I saw that post, and that, so far, is the only answer to this question, which, personally, from a business standpoint, is legally questionable. This is on Square's official site, and it explicitly states it can be canceled and returned (funds) in 1 business day. However, based on the steps provided, it does not exist on the platform. I mean, honestly, if this were another institution (I know Square isn't one, and it's passed through Sutton Bank), it already has that option, and I can call at any time as if it were an urgent account matter.

That's interesting @arielg1 .  I too find it a bit odd that a check can't be cancelled if it hasn't been sent.  Mistakes happen, things happen etc.  Let me see if I can tag someone here that can look into this.

Hey @arielg1

Thanks for updating your post and helping other users who may face this same issue in the future.  Hopefully the flagged part of that is just a preventive thing put in place by Square to make sure that it was really you who cancelled it.

Thanks again
