Is there a way to use a keycard with a barcode on it to pull up client profiles?

Hi! I recently took a beauty business class and she suggested investing in little keychain cards with barcodes on them to pull up client profiles. (It makes the clients get constantly reminded of your business and it’s a way to market). The cards don’t have to do anything other than pull up the client profile when scanned.

@701beautybar ,

Welcome to the Square users forum.

The only 2 things I know the Search bar looks for of a customer is their name and phnone number.  If you can make a barcode with your phone numer to test that.  Becacue the name might be too long and go off a keycard type item.

Try your phone number as a barcode and add your number as a customer as a test to see if this works.

Let us know if this does work!!

I just tried doing my own cell number, when I type in the number it appeared, even only typing in the last 4.

When I scanned the last four or the entire number it just gave errors saying Item not found.

Now the barcodes I used were:

examples:   1234

and 717123456

Those did not work, not sure if the area code needs "( )" or the number needs "-" betweeen it to signify to search the phone number of a customer.  But again when typing in either 1234 or 717123456 my name appeared with a list of items and people with 1234 in their number or just me with number 717123456 unless an Item also used the same 717123456 barcode.

I just tried the Refrence ID for a customer and you can scan that number with a scanner.  You can edit the Refrence ID of a customer in your customer directory and choose the customer name and enter a Refrence ID of your choosing.  I used birthdate and it worked.  You can use letters and numbers like you do for a SKU, and this works for a Scanner to find the customer(s).

So if you put in a Refrence ID for the Customer then make them a Tag with that barcode on it, it should work.  As long as your Scanner or scanning device can read the Barcode.

@701beautybar ;

With a Square recommended scanner or depending on your Device maybe the Built in camera.  I use a Square Stand with Ipad, and he Ipad can use its camera nativly to scan barcodes.  In the Search Field you see on the right side a square tye Icon.  If you press that the camera becomes available on the Stand.  You may need to switch the camera from Rear to Forward facing.  On other devices such as a cell phone or register I am not sure if this is available.  I only use the built in camera as a backup if needed which is seldom, I use zebra usb Scanners attached to my Square Ipad for scanning of items.
