How Are Other Retailers Tracking Expirations in Square?

Hi everyone

I am running into a challenge I am sure some of you can relate to tracking product expiration dates in Square. As many of you know Square does not offer native support for expiration tracking and I am curious how other retailers are managing this

In the past I have tried a few different approaches

• Manual checks reviewing all 2000 plus items in store each month which is time consuming and not scalable
• Sticker labelling adding month and year stickers to items at the time of receipt
• Custom database at a previous job we logged expiry dates at the time of receiving into a third party system and I wish Square had a similar option to capture expirations during receiving or through purchase orders

Right now I am struggling to find an efficient workflow within the Square ecosystem and would love to hear how others are handling this. Are you using external tools spreadsheets integrations or just sticking with pen and paper

Any ideas or workarounds would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Easiest way I’ve found is to use a pricing gun with it set to date. So for something with a 30 day expiration date I would set the price gun to print 072325 when I was checking it in then just go thru the shelf’s once a week looking for the sticker so I can markdown items that are getting close to expired to move them out

Having been spoiled with a digital database and having done the sticker approach, I long for the days of a digital tool!
