Getting Sales

I am so frustrated.  I was sick of paying other sites crazy high selling fees so I decided to start my own website.

It has been three weeks and no sales.  I just feel like I'm spinning my wheels.

How do I get sales?  Does any one pay to advertise?

Getting traffic to your site is not an easy task. But do not get discouraged as it's doable.

Before jumping to buying ads I would take a few steps to improve my organic traffic.

1- Improve your site

 - Signup with search.google.com and see the status of your site.

Here is an article at Square

 - Fill your website SEO fields with relative information

2- Signup with Google Merchant Center.

 - Since your products are not new, you need to tweak some settings

Square article

read this old but good article

another article (Shopify specific but somewhat applicable)

search and educate yourself (used, no GTIN products in Merchant Center)

3- Connect your website with your Instagram / Facebook account

(I'm not a fan of neither sites, but they sure drive traffic)

The list keeps going but this should give you a head start.

Advertise after start getting some organic traffic, otherwise, your ad dollars will mostly be wasted.

Cheers

Hi Amandasnewtoyou,

@CoreiDstarted the ball rolling - here's more to get your head spinning.

You're not the first person to ask this question - it's quite common.  Simply having a website is only the beginning. It takes time to build a presence.  Now that your site is set up, ask your friends and family to check it out and provide some feedback – what do they like or not. Is your site easy to navigate, are your photos and descriptions clear, do you have contact information – meaning is there a way to get in touch with you (phone number, email address, physical address) – this is all important so people have trust in you.

Driving sales to your website requires a combination of strategies and tactics.  Below are a few tips, note, pick and choose – not everything works for everyone.

1. Optimize Your Website:
- Ensure your website is user-friendly, loads quickly, and is mobile-responsive.
- Improve the overall design and navigation to make it easy for visitors to find what they're looking for.

2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
- Optimize your website for search engines to increase organic traffic.
- Conduct keyword research and use relevant keywords in your content.
- Create high-quality, engaging content that provides value to your audience.

3. Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising:   If you’re on a budget, hold off on spending money.
- Run targeted PPC campaigns on platforms like Google Ads and Bing Ads.
- Use precise keywords and ad targeting to reach your ideal customers.
- Monitor and adjust your campaigns regularly for better ROI.

4. Social Media Marketing: Most marketing can be done for free.
- Establish a strong presence on social media platforms where your audience hangs out.
- Share engaging content, including product updates, behind-the-scenes content, and customer testimonials.
- Use paid advertising on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to reach a wider audience.

5. Email Marketing:  Be careful – don’t spam people.
- Build and segment your email list.
- Send personalized and relevant emails to your subscribers, including promotions, product updates, and newsletters.
- Implement abandoned cart recovery emails to recover potential sales.

6. Content Marketing: Think Youtube & Vimeo.
- Create valuable, informative, and entertaining content that resonates with your target audience.
- Publish blog posts, videos, infographics, and other content that showcases your expertise and products.
- Share your content on social media and through email newsletters.

7. Influencer Marketing:
- Collaborate with influencers in your niche to promote your products or services.
- Ensure the influencers align with your brand and have a genuine following.
- Leverage their reach and credibility to drive sales.

8. Customer Reviews and Testimonials:
- Encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews on your website and on review platforms.
- Display these reviews prominently to build trust and credibility.

9. Loyalty Programs and Discounts:
- Create a loyalty program to reward repeat customers.
- Offer special discounts, promotions, or early access to incentivize purchases.

10. Optimize Checkout Process:
- Simplify the checkout process to reduce cart abandonment rates.
- Offer multiple payment options and ensure a secure transaction process.

11. A/B Testing:
- Continuously test different elements of your website, such as headlines, product descriptions, and calls-to-action.
- Use A/B testing to determine what works best for conversion optimization.

12. Analytics and Tracking:
- Implement tools like Google Analytics to monitor website traffic and sales data.
- Use these insights to make data-driven decisions and optimize your marketing efforts.

13. Customer Support and Engagement:   Very Important.
- Provide excellent customer support to answer questions and address concerns.
- Engage with your audience on social media and respond promptly to comments and messages.

14. Referral Programs:
- Encourage customers to refer to friends and family by offering incentives or discounts for successful referrals.

15. Partnerships and Affiliates:
- Collaborate with other businesses or websites for cross-promotion and affiliate marketing opportunities.

16. Think outside the box - depending on what you are selling - consider outdoor or indoor events.  Local Farmer's Markets and/or Art Shows are fantastic for exposure.  Even small ads in local papers and/or publications can help.

Remember that building and sustaining online sales takes time and effort.  It's important to monitor your strategies' performance and adapt to changing market conditions and consumer behaviors.

Be patient, stay consistent, and always seek to improve your website and marketing efforts.
