When onboarding new team members, they have to learn the systems.  Square is the only one that I use.  

 

Adding a training mode to onboard team members would be helpful in appointments, pos & retail.

I would love a training mode. Asking businesses to refund transactions that are "practiced" on a card while not also reversing the fees just feels like a way to skim money from the business and reduces their ability to effectively train new hires.

This is a standard feature in most POS system, and we were both surprised and disappointed that such a simple and fundamental function is missing.

 

A training mode is required to be able to train new staff, and supervisors through the whole process, including cash up, without affecting reports and real world figures. It also allows testing of programming and menu items, kitchen prints and KDS, with all users knowing that it is a training ticket. 

 

Expecting businesses to refund a transaction is ridiculous, and Square would still take their fee, so that's not an appropriate solution. 

 

 

We use Square for our non-profit museum gift shop. It's run primarily by volunteers who skew older in age and are less technology savvy. Even though Square is fairly user friendly, they all still have trouble when first learning or if it's been a while since they've had to use it.

 

Having a dedicated training mode where they could practice transactions--repetition really helps with their retention!!-- would be game changing! Seriously, we've lost out on sales, under charged customers, and even overcharged customers due to our volunteers' lack of confidence using this system. And it's not lack of trying, they all constantly ask questions and ask to be retrained regularly!

 

And like others have said, even with refunds "balancing" the books, we'd rather NOT have that on our reports. And what if Square still keeps their cuts in fees for processing CC sales? 

 

Seriously Square, people have been asking for this for nearly a decade, its time you deliver!

I find that a lot of the training modes that I found on POS systems are literally just like a lock the screen and they’ll give you one thing they don’t really actually give you any sort of training. Which is where I found such a problem as a worker as a user that it seemed pointless to me. I don’t entirely know the square system well enough, but I would enjoy the idea of participating or assisting in giving feedback on like a beta program for this. This would be a great introduction as long as it doesn’t limit or incapacitate the use of the functions as it stands. Because just thinking about the want and the need to have this set up when I did was awesome that I got on here and it was available to me. If I had to go through training and already knew what I was doing or needed it done when I felt like it should be done. It would very much irritate me to have to go through a training process at that point. Hit me up if you wanna collaborate on anything about it this would be a good feature!
