Troubleshooting Intermittent Printing Speed Issues with Epson m249a Printer

Thermal printer may print normally for 5 or 6 receipts then take perhaps 10 or 12 seconds to print then go back to OK for a couple etc. Very frustrating

Hey @arthur3, I'm sorry to hear you're running into these issues with your thermal printerโ€”I can imagine how frustrating this must be!

Intermittent issues with printing speed on thermal printers can often be caused by a few common factors. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check the Printer Connection: Ensure the printer is securely connected to your Square device (via USB, Bluetooth, or Ethernet). A loose or unstable connection can sometimes cause delays.

2. Update Firmware: Check if the printerโ€™s firmware is up to date. Visit Epson's website or consult your printer manual for instructions on updating the firmware.

3. Printer Overheating: Thermal printers can slow down if they start to overheat after printing several receipts in a row. Ensure your printer is located in a well ventilated area and allow it to cool down in between heavy use.

4. Paper Roll Quality: Ensure you're using the correct type and quality of thermal paper. Lower-quality paper can sometimes cause slower printing or jams.

5. Network Interference (if applicable): If the printer is connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, ensure the network connection is stable. Temporary disruptions can affect print speed.

6. Test on Another Device: Try connecting the printer to another device or POS system to see if the issue persists. This can help rule out whether the issue is with the printer or the connected device.

7. Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, unplug it for a minute, and then reconnect it. Sometimes, a quick reset can resolve intermittent issues.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, I recommend reaching out to Epson Support on 1300 361 054 further assistance, as they may have additional troubleshooting steps or options for repair.
