Credit card payments using cheque account

Hi, customers want to insert their card instead of tapping so they can choose cheque or savings account instead of credit. When they do this the credit card is automatically charged - can I change this so they can select the account they want to use? Causes a lot of frustration...

Hey @ArtfulMeadow,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Account selection should be available upon inserting the card's chip into the slot on the reader!

As far as I know, defaulting to Visa/Mastercard for Tap is just how these cards work, rather it being an option we don't have available.

I know whenever I want to use my Savings account on my Visa debit card, I have to insert the chip - this is across all card readers rather than a specific merchant payment terminal provider!

Yes Seamus, I understand all of that basic information.

As I said in my original question - my customer INSERTED his card into the chip reader and WAS NOT given the option to choose savings. He uses this card all the time in the same manner and is ALWAYS given the option to choose the account, but our terminal did not give him the option.

Could it be a faulty chip reader?

this is happening on my Square reader aswell.  I have a client who wants to use the cheque account on her anz visa card, we insert the card but it does not give any option to use an account, takes her payment immediately using her visa credit card.
