Cash sales of egiftcards

We ran a promotion at our plant nursery with the prize being 2 x $50 egift cards.  One for the winner and one for a friend.    

I'm using the desktop site and i want to process the two gift cards as cash sales.   I can only see an option for a credit card sale. 

Has anyone got a work around for this?

Thanks for getting in touch! I noticed it's your first post, welcome to our community 👋 

I'm assuming that this promotion was a giveaway, and that you won't actually take in any cash for these sales. In this case, creating a 100% discount to give these gift cards away, instead of recording a cash sale, would be the best way to proceed. Here's how:

1. Head to Gift Cards in your dashboard. 

2. Select egift Cards > Promotions.

3. Click > Create Code. 

4. Enter a promotion code, and set the discount percentage to 100%. 

5. Save when you're done.

Next, head to your eGift Card page to "purchase" the gift cards you're giving away, and enter the promo code you've created when going through the checkout process.

I work at a small sit in and take away establishment. We use Square POS to process orders-a customer orders and pays at the same time, we do not have open tabs. We recently offered a $250 voucher for a winner of a competition.  I am trying to understand the best way to create this in Square.  It does not need to be a physical (plastic) card, information  can be emailed to the winner.

Should I be using an E-Gift card or a discount code? The options needs to be very user friendly as we have a variety of cashiers with differing acceptance of change.

1. I am thinking that I could setup a $250 discount in the Dashboard and apply it to the order when the customer comes in.  However, I have a feeling they will want to use a tab, is this possible in POS or only in Square Restaurant?

2. eGift Card -can I process this as an expense to the business rather than it needing to be paid off by the recipient? On the Payment section of the POS transaction is there an option for the 16-digit redemption code to be entered?

Thanks for writing in and welcome to our community!

I've merged your post to this thread where someone had the same question. At this time, the Point of Sale doesn't have a tab function, so issuing an eGift card would be the most efficient way to issue, and track this voucher. Follow the steps in this thread to issue the egift card without it being paid off by the recipient.
