Hi Helen,
Is this available in Australia?
I can't find the add Scales option in my Android device
@oscar-jones @Steak-Out @milawacheese @OrganicLarder Head up we've just launched support for CAS PD-2 digital scale.
Initial support is for Square Terminal, Square Stand (the 9.7" iPad/lightning connector model) and compatible Android devices running the Square Point of Sale app.
We're hoping to build out the functionality here to other Square products in the future - so support for Square Stand (10.5" iPads w/ USB C), Square Register, Square for Restaurants, Square for Retail and Appointments will hopefully come down the track.
Hi @oscar-jones! Right now the ability to connect an scale to an Android device is not available in Australia. We are working to bring this to all sellers and we hope to have an update for you soon!
If you haven't already you can subscribe to our Product Updates blog - that way you'll receive an email notification for new features, including any updates on using scales with Square.
Has anyone been able to successfully integrate a scale/weighing system straight to Square? We’re a small business, looking at weighing our produce directly linked to the item in the square system for a faster transaction/checkout for the consumer
Hey @Steak-Out,
At the moment there's no scale integration available for Square in Australia, however this is something we're working on and hope to have more to announce soon - I'll update this thread once we do!
Thanks Seamus. The team at Hycom are waiting to hear back from your programmers. They have a lot of experience with other POS systems that currently have dynamic customer information cards and also point of sale weighing systems. It would be great to get these sooner rather than later to bolster the customer satisfaction rating
Hey @Steak-Out,
Thanks again for the feedback!
I can't speak to specific models of scales that may or may not be available in the future - hardware integration decisions are generally made at a higher level by Product Development teams.
That said, we do support some scales in the US right now and I know we're looking to support at least one scale in Australia as a starting point. I'm not sure if it will be a Hycom scale, but I'll update you as soon as I have more info to share.
Thanks Seamus. We look forward to having some integrated scales finally
Thanks, I’m keen to know timeline, too.
We’ve been waiting a long time. I’ve got to say the support from Square is pretty poor as is the response time.
integrated scales are not a tough ask to bring to market either in an environment where it already exists.
C’mon Square lift your game and look after your constituents.
@milawacheese Square doesn't make release timelines public, and often there are various factors that contribute towards releases taking longer than expected. I do understand that this one has been in the works for a while, and this is probably one case where we have experienced unexpected delays due to various things I can't go into. It's still in the works though, we're still aware there's strong demand, and I'll continue to pass Seller feedback on!
@Steak-Out Sorry to hear you feel that way! I try to be as responsive as possible here, and share as much information as I'm able to. If you were to look back through my post history I hope you'd change your mind on the support bit 🙂 But I understand your frustration at the lack of a set timeline for scales and how long things have taken so far. As usual, what I can do is ping everyone in this thread once I have more information to share. We're still working on a scale integration, and I'm sorry it's taking so long!
Seamus, your response time is fine, it is your sales support team that doesn't respond quickly.
You can feed this back to them, as their are a lot of less than satisfactory engagements as of late. The scales are a big peeve. It is amazing you can offer business loans to share in my profits; but listening to your customers needs in relation to integrated scales, a loyalty card that clients swipe and it brings their details up on our system so all staff can identify the customer, more flexibility on what we can turn on and off our website etc.
We look forward to some breakthroughs with Square soon,
Hey @Steak-Out,
I want to clarify that Square doesn't actually have a sales support team who look at each request made by every seller, with ultimate goal of getting every request we see into the development pipeline for production - this simply would not be feasible from a product development standpoint.
We receive hundreds of different feature requests each day via various channels - phone, email, this forum, social media channels, live chat support etc. We're serving a large variety of different merchants, all of whom have their own unique wants and needs for our product offerings.
Overall product direction and new features are decided on at a high level by product teams, based on a number of different factors (one of which is seller feedback) - if you'd like a little more insight into feature requests, please check this thread, and for a heads up on major release updates be sure to follow our Product Updates board.
It's worth noting that Square has dozens of different internal teams working on different things, serving different markets. So the folks who work on Loans aren't going to be involved in stuff like scales, and the team looking after scales won't be involved in eCommerce etc. For every new feature you see that doesn't serve your own wants and needs for our platform, it's doing exactly that for other sellers who have expressed a want and need for something else.
To try and give you a bit more visibility on your specific requests though:
Scales - This is still in the works for Australia and has taken us longer than expected, for a variety of reasons that I'm unfortunately not able to go further into. Work here is still on going.
Loyalty cards - Not in the pipeline as far as I know. We're pretty clear on the direction of Loyalty as a cardless system managed primarily via SMS - though I have and will continue to pass on feedback from sellers looking for a more traditional card based system, as well as other use cases we've seen such as the ability to print Loyalty barcodes.
Turning your website on and off - What was the exact feature you were looking for here? We have a couple of things that cover this:
The ability to turn off online orders:

The ability to prevent orders from occurring on set dates outside of your normal operating hours:

Do either of these options cover what you were looking for?
While these may not have been the exact answers you were looking for here, I do hope this helps provide some more context into feature requests and how the development cycle operates!
Hi Seamus,
we merely want to turn off entering the address instantly and have clients enter it at the end.
the pop up continually occurs until they do. Some people just want to look at the menu. I have to admit having been made aware of it, it is an annoying feature and a simple fix. We’re losing clients from what I’m told from this not being able to be disabled.
surely the software team can rectify this at the click of the button and make it optional for businesses to choose whether they have it or not.
As previously mentioned, we as the client should have the ability to make that choice.
As for the other matters addressed, we were told by your sales team when onboarding that the scales were not far off. It has been over a year now.
Have a nice weekend
Hi Square, any updates on timing for Scales, we've been waiting over 18 months. Our regulatory bodies here in Australia are actively visiting small business with Square to check and assess scale certification and alignment with POS. There are rules and we'd like to have it integrated to remove the likelihood of errors between scale-human-terminal. What's the ETA please?
Hey @OrganicLarder,
Thanks for reaching out. I am aware we've been working on integrating support for a scale, however at the moment I don't have an ETA . I'd expect it would be at some point this year, though I can't say for sure. I will update this thread once I'm able to share more news! Any scale integration we did launch would be certified in accordance with National Measurement Institute standards.

We’ve been waiting for scales to weight the meat on straight into our point of sale and haven’t got an update yet.
when is it being launched in Australia?
@Steak-Out We launched scale support for the CAS PD-2 digital scale in July - I edited the above post and tagged you with a link to the product update, you might have missed the email alert at the time!
Per the post, initial support is for Square Terminal, Square Stand (the 9.7" iPad/lightning connector model) and compatible Android devices running the Square Point of Sale app.
The goal is to also support for Square Stand (10.5" iPads w/ USB C), Square Register, Square for Restaurants, Square for Retail and Appointments in the future. Let me know if you have any questions about the integration!
Awesome news. Looking forward to using a SW-1C(RS) or even upgrading to the CAS PD-2 if need be with my Square Register in Australia. Thanks for the updates
Any updates on the compatibility for the scales with square register?
Hey @EricsMeats no further updates to share regarding scales being supported on Square Register at this time.
We're still working on this integration and will ensure we ping everyone in this thread once we have something to share. The best I can do now is to continue to pass on your feedback to our product teams.
