Is it possible to display the Item ID/SKU on a customer-facing item page automatically?
Hey @SamRead, great question! At this time it's not possible to automatically display the item ID or SKU for an item on your Square Online site.
A couple of workarounds include adding the SKU to the Item Description or adding it to the title of the item (aka item name). Hope one of those help for now! If you can share why this would help your business I can share your feedback with the right team at Square.

Hi Helen. Thanks for the reply. Thought the item description workaround might be best, but given that we're already inputting SKU data once it would be great to not double up on typing. We're finding that including SKU (ISBNs for us) would help the discoverability of our shop items, and so enhanced support for this would be great.
Also worth noting that when a shop has a large number of items (ours now has 7,500+), this kind of management of description detail is impractical.
Oh hmm, I see what you mean. You could use the bulk import item tool to add SKUs to the description en masse. Item descriptions will sync over from your Dashboard to Square Online but you can double check the setting too - head to Square Online > Settings > Square sync > Sync item descriptions.

I just called in the call center about this same issue today. As common as it is to find SKU numbers or any sort of identifiable numbers on almost any ecommerce site, you would think this would be something already configured. We are a vintage shop who has more than on 1980's Black Velvet Vest. Having a SKU number visible for the customer will help us better help them. Putting the SKU number in the item description only requires a lot more time, especially considering that the SKU number is not easily located from the place of the item description. This is definitely something which should be fixed. Not having the SKU number visible to customers is much more abnormal than normal.
Yes, we'd still love an option to make visible SKU numbers in the item pages. We have added this detail to our items at times but duplicating it into the description has proven tricky and really labour intensive. Ideally, we'd also love the same data to be labelled as a unique product identifier in the metadata so that search engines would recognise all our unique product pages based on this info. We hope a future update will introduce one or both of these.
