Using square readers abroad

Hi guys. I plan to go to France soon and need to be able to take payments there. I am aware that my UK registered square card reader will not work in France.

Is there a work around or solution to this issue that I can do?

Many thanks 🙂

Hey @Woa, welcome to the Seller Community 🙂

Currently, cross-border card payments are unsupported. This means that card transactions attempted outside of the country where you activated your Square account can’t be processed with the Square Reader. However, you can accept card payments using the Virtual Terminal or register cash transactions while travelling internationally.

I'll leave some information about the Virtual Terminal here. You would be able to open the Virtual Terminal while travelling by opening your Square Dashboard on a browser on your phone if you don't have access to a laptop/computer.

I hope this helps!

Hi WOA. The SumUp card reader can be used in France ( and most of Europe) but it will only use the currency originally set up.
