Hi I've got a website and all of my pages have nice short urls apart from the Shop page and the category pages and product pages within the shop. I've used other website builders and there's a way to simplify these, so they look neater when a customer clicks on the link.
For example I have my bespoke designs page - https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/bespoke-designs
Then on a product page I have this - https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/product/Oor-Wullie-Wooden-Hand-Painted-Resin-Artwork/86?cp=true&s...
I think it would look better like this https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/product/Oor-Wullie-Wooden-Hand-Painted-Resin-Artwork
Is there a way of doing that?
Also my shop all page is called https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/s/shop
When I would prefer it to be this https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/shop
The category page is https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/shop/Wooden-Artwork/13?page=1&limit=60&sort_by=category_order&sor...
When it would look a lot better like this https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/shop/Wooden-Artwork
I just think that the longer urls could be offputting to potential customers who are not sure whether my site is legit or not.
Hi @MikeB1974, welcome to the Seller Community! Thank you for posting your question here.
You can change the page URL in your Site Editor. Please check this thread for more information on how-to.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks for your reply but that doesn't work, as the url in the change page settings is this https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/product/Oor-Wullie-Wooden-Hand-Painted-Resin-Artwork
And when it is saved and I load it, it is this https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/product/OorWullie-Wooden-Hand-Painted-Resin-Artwork/86?cp=true&sa...
I think it looks terrible and it baffles me why Square are using this type of practice on their websites when other website builders allow you to shorten the url. I spoke to someone on the phone today and he said it can't be changed but I could request that feature. Why should we have to request a feature that is pretty standard?
Look at this site for instance https://artgallery.co.uk/pale-yellow-daffodils-watercolor The url tells you the name of the site and the name of the product. That's all a customer needs to see. It's a lot cleaner.
All of the non product pages on my site are fine (contact us page - https://www.youwoodenbelieveit.com/contact-us - it tells you the name of the website and the name of the page and that is all), so it makes the product pages look like they don't belong on there
Hey Mike,
is the issue for when your paste links into emails/social etc? As when you’ve suggested your ‘shorter’ urls they still work for me & take me right to the product you’re linking to. I believe the the extra stuff at the end when it loads tells the systems where you’ve come from/browser or some other info that we generally don’t need ourselves.
Hi @MikeB1974, just stepping here for Emma here.
I had previously had this query from another seller and I had reached out to the Square Online team for confirmation. As our Customer Support team mentioned, with Square Online it's not currently possible to change the URL of item links.
I appreciate this doesn't look as neat and that other companies have more flexibility but at the moment this is a feature request.
Our team is always working on improvements to current features in the background so thank you for bearing with us. I'll be sure to come back here with any future updates.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I know it's a feature request, I have no idea why this hasn't been implemented from the start and people have to request something like this. It makes no sense to have a category url with a random number at the end of it or a product url that has all the extra stuff at the end. It's like buying a TV with all the wires on display. I get it that all website builders have different features but having a proper url isn't a feature, it's something that should be standard. All of my other pages have proper urls so why are the product and category pages different? That's not the only difference either. There's not much scope on there to make the product and category pages look the same as the other pages either. Every page on my site has a banner at the top with the title of the page on it. They all look the same until you get to the category and product pages and even though they look alright they aren't uniformed like the other pages on my site. I think Square is great and those are the pnly things that I can find fault with Square for, but those are big things.
I fully appreciate your frustration here @MikeB1974 and thank you for sticking with us. We've shared your feedback with the appropriate team. We hope we'll be able to provide a positive update here soon! Let us know if there's anything else we can do.
Hi @MikeB1974, @Breffni and @Sam_400º
I was wondering if this feature change had been implemented yet? We have been doing some SEO for our website and noticed that we are also getting some long strange URL with a number in it rather than a nice neat to the point link Dark Hot Chocolate Flakes | Coco Chemistry
https://www.cocochemistry.co.uk/product/Dark-Hot-Chocolate-Bag/17?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true
We see the permalink Dark-Hot-Chocolate-Bag, but then all the extra after this
Many thanks,
Richard
Hi @doc_choc, thanks for your inquiry.
I haven't heard anything about this feature request yet, but I'll be sure to let you know if there is an update.
Thanks for your patience.
