Off line payments

I've read the 'help' article about off line payemnts but still don't understand it.

We're online most of the time but our internet does go down occasionally (we're a small sports club not a commercial business).

Do we have to do anything when this happens to enable off line payments or is it automatic?

If it is automatic, how do we know this has occurred? Is a message displayed on the register? Can we get a message if we log in to our dashboard at our PC away from the club?

From experience you need to have this enabled in your device profile, and you can set a limit for this too.

From what I know, it happens automatically if the internet goes down for any reason, in which case it will allow you to continue to take card payments from customers, and yes there is a red banner at the top of the till that says the device is offline. It also usually requires the customer to insert their cards too rather than use contactless - HOWEVER, it doesn't do a check with their bank to make sure they actually have the money in their account to honour the payments, so it's a risk. If they do have the funds, then when your device comes back online, the payment will get sent through and processed, but if they don't have the funds, it will decline by which point it's probably too late to do anything about it.

Also, you have to synchronise the devices/bring them back online within a certain time limit otherwise the payments don't go through. I think this is around 24 hours.
