KDS

I am on a trial KDS for a month and have setup 2 test screens (1 kitchen prep, 1 FOH exp)
What I am trying to achieve is the incoming order to appear only on the kitchen screen (which they do). I have then set the expeditor screen to only show orders "in progress".  The kitchen screen only seems to be able to complete an order when we tap the top of the order ticket so it goes to the completed section on all screens.

I am able to use Square Online/Orders and mark the order as "in progress" and it instantly shows up on the exp screen but this seems to defeat the purpose of having the KDS system, having to run 2 different systems. I am looking for a way for the kitchen KDS to make the order as "in progress" rather than be completed. Ideally all we want to see on the exp FOH screen are the orders on the pass, before then being marked as complete when we send them out. 

So far everything with square has been simple and has worked without issue but this one is stumping me (if it is possible).

Hey @yaykenny - welcome to the KDS! 

My brain isn't working perfectly this morning - but think I've got my head around what you're doing. 

I like to see the all the orders at the FoH side, so with this set as the expo it shows all the current orders - however those that are ready to go to customers show with green ticks/complete circles next to them. Then marked as complete when they're away. 

I don't believe there is a way to only show the orders that the kitchen has completed on a display without using the completed screen. 

In my kitchen I have it set to expo as need to send notifications to come customers as stuff becomes ready. So I have/use the completed screen. 

As I understand it you really want a screen that's empty unless there is something waiting to go out to make it an obvious way of calling service? I like that idea! As it's not currently available it's one that I'd be voting for if you add it to the Ideate boards 👍🏻

Hi, thanks for the reply. 

Currently when we hit the bar on the check on the kitchen KDS it marks it as complete and it vanishes from both the kitchen screen and the expo screen. Your setup sounds fine actually which would show us all the orders with the ones ready to go with dots next to them (which I read somewhere was the way it worked). I'll take another look at it and set the expo screen to show all orders and let you know.

Thanks to all. We have it setup now like Sam suggested, we were just not noticing the faint grey dot on the order on the expo station, surely there is a way to make this brighter !

The empty screen idea unless an order is on the pass would be great. As you can already set the expo station to "only show orders in progress" , all they need to do is to add the option on the prep stations to either mark as complete or mark as in progress when you tap the order. I have achieved this by finding the order outside of KDS (in square online/orders)  and marking it as in progress and it pops up on the expo screen perfectly but far too much hassle doing that every time! Maybe an easy feature to add 🙂
