How do I get a free magstripe card reader?

Hello Seller community members,

I'm trying to get a free magstripe card reader, but when I put it in my cart it charges me $10 and I've never ordered one before.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I would not recommend using a magstripe reader.  After the liability shift a few years ago using a mag stripe to take a credit card puts all the liability on you the vendor for any fraud or chargebacks.  If you have an iPhone from the last few years, iPhone XS or newer, you can take a payment directly on your phone with no additional hardware. https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7786-get-started-with-tap-to-pay-on-iphone

Otherwise, I would get a contactless reader.  https://a.co/d/75tEQQJ

Hey there Matata,

Have to agree with @VanKalkerFarms - since the liability changes from magstripe to chip cards, it's into your best interest to go with the next level reader or contactless and chip reader.  The investment is well worth it and in the larger picture - it's really not a big deal.  Just a thought from someone who has been in the business for quite a long time - of course, it's your choice.
