FEATURE REQUEST: Connecting Virtual Terminal To the Square App on phone

Good morning,

 

Will there be any plans to allow businesses to create a sale in the square app on a mobile phone, and have the payment paid on the virtual terminal. I was about to purchase the terminal based on email saying that payments can be generated on a virtual terminal, and then actioned on the terminal as a way of maintaining social distancing.  This would be perfect for the way I work. However I would want to raise the payment on my phone or on an iPad, rather than a laptop.

 

I spoke to someone on help this morning, and she said the only way to do this would be to use a browser on your phone or iPad, which feels slow and clunky.  Would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

At the moment, I'm not aware of any plan that would allow the Virtual Terminal to connect with the Square Point of Sale app on an iPad or other mobile devices, rather than the Square Terminal.

 

In saying that, this feature was only rolled our recently so the team might have something in the work. I'll share this as a feature request with the team so they can look into this further for future developments. I would also encourage you to check out our Beta Community to join and potentially get access to new features first when we test them out.

Hi @tranguyen Thanks very much for the quick reply. I really appreciate it.  I have signed up for the beta community, and appreciate you suggesting that feature to your team. Can I just check that you picked up my question correctly.  It was that i wanted to generate a sale on the POS App and have it paid on the Square Terminal  (i.e. i could be sat in one part of a room with my phone, with someone a couple of metres away with the terminal next to them.) In your summary above you talked about the "virtual terminal" linking to the app which wasn't my question.

Apology for the confusion @ELIZABETHT, you mentioned the Virtual Terminal in the first line so I thought you were looking to connect the Square Point of Sale app to the Virtual Terminal, rather than the Square Point of Sale app to the handheld Terminal device.

 

While there isn't a way to automatically push sale from the Square Point of Sale app to the handheld Terminal, a workaround would be to use Open Ticket. To do this, you can create a ticket on the other device and open the ticket on the Terminal to process the payment. You can read more about Open Tickets in our Support Centre

Hi @tranguyen  - ah no problem at all. To be honest, if I have to touch the terminal to process that open ticket, I may as well touch it to raise the sale on the terminal too.  Thanks for trying to help though!
