Hi there, I have a small pier kiosk and currently use the portable card reader terminal but sometimes my husband needs to sell items at the bottom of the pier and so we're away from each other. I've decided the best way around this (as currently our son runs up and down between us!) is the buy the contactless card reader (the little square one) so my husband and I have one each.
My question is, will I just log in the usual way with both running at the same time on one WIFI connection (my phone currently) or do we need to connect to separate WIFI connections and separate square accounts. Is this all pretty easy to do?
TIA.
Hi @tfcpd!
Just to echo @The_Sun_Inn, I’m also a little unsure about what devices you're currently using. Are you using a Square Terminal connected via mobile data, and now looking to add a second device, like a phone or tablet, paired with a Square Reader for tap payments?
If so, the good news is yes, that setup is totally doable and easy to get going!
If you’d like all payments recorded under the same Location for reporting, just download the Square Point of Sale app on the second device, sign in with your Square account credentials, and connect your Square Reader. That’s it — you’re ready to take payments. And just to clarify, the second device doesn't need to be on the same network as your Terminal, so long as it’s connected to the internet (via Wi-Fi or mobile data), you’ll be good to go.
Alternatively, if your second device is compatible, you can also enable Tap to Pay (enable on iOS/enable on Android) and accept contactless payments directly, no reader required. Just have customers tap their card or digital wallet to your device.
In short, you can have multiple devices signed into the same Square account and processing payments simultaneously.
If you ever want transactions recorded under separate Locations, you can set up an additional Location in your Square Dashboard and select it when logging in on the new device. I don’t think that’s what you're after right now, but good to keep in mind if your setup evolves.
Let me know if that clears things up! 🙂
Not sure what POS you are using but could you use 'Tap to pay' on a phone? Not sure if the wireless card reader would work in your scenario as I believe it works via bluetooth so limited distance.
From Square POS, goto Settings, then Account then enable Tap to Pay.
