uploaded photos are cropped and only show center portion

When I upload photos, some of them (maybe all of them)  are cropped and only show the center portion. I have read (as many as I can find) support docs, and tried uploading different formats of the same file, to no avail. I also do not understand how the photos are laid out, portrait, landscape, etc. because when I click on "edit" it only allows me to change the photo, not edit it. I am using the free version, if that makes any difference.

Can you please let us know your site name, and provide a screenshot of the area your are editing. We have a great post here for understanding background images, but I'm not sure if this would be relevant to you. Thanks!

The best example is the professionally photographed item "Nokomis doll" which has the head and feet cropped, which is not the way it should look.

Did you get a chance to check out the post I linked in this thread? Please click here to check out Valentina's pinned answer for making sure your images are set to the best ratio for the image size.

This solution will not set the size for individual items, only for ALL items.  Not what is needed for showing artwork.

This is a real problem for people selling art.  Customers don't want to see only a part of the work!  Is there a way that at least the whole image (as the file was supplied) could be seen when viewing the individual item?  As it is, even the zoom (+) gives the cropped view of the product.  And fixing the size to the same for all items doesn't account for landscape work and portrait work!
