Hi Datguythere80,

Which app are you planning to use, Square has several ?

What products do you plan to sell ?  (That determines who to market to and who to buy from.)

Do you plan to sell online or in person or both ?

By understanding what you have in mind will help other Community Members here and hopefully provide some thoughts.

Hi Datguythere80,

Starting out new is a challenge and there's quite a few steps involved.  Assuming you want to use Square for selling online, the first step is establishing yourself as a business -  Here's some general things to consider:

* Research and Planning:   Identify your business idea, what product or service will you offer?  Is there a demand for your product or service?  Who are your competitors?

* Legal Structure (very important):  Choose a legal structure for your business, such as sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability company (LLC), or corporation. Register your business name with the appropriate government agency.  Obtain necessary permits and licenses to operate legally in your location. Obtain any necessary business insurance to protect against liability.

* Finances:  Determine startup costs and ongoing expenses.  Set up a business bank account to separate personal and business finances.  Getting a loan for startup with no history can be a challenge - start with your local bank.  You may need an accountant to help with financial planning and tax compliance.

* Brand Development:  Think about a logo, website, and marketing materials.  How do you plan to attract customers, including online and in person.

As for looking for a Mentor - consider the SBA - they have local offices everywhere and people who can connect entrepreneurs with lenders and funding to help them plan, start and grow their business.
