freecycle chip reader

I picked up a square chip reader from freecycle. It was in the box and looks new. Is there any concern that the reader itself could be hacked or altered in any way? If it works with the square app, am I okay? Thanks.

Hi @SturgellDesign!

The reader shouldn't be hacked/altered in any way as they only have the technology to process cards in them.

They also don't ever contain any account specific information as they aren't connected to one certain account.

If it's working okay, you should be good to go!
