Why is my app crashing when I connect the Square Reader for contactless and chip?

The title of this post has been edited from the original: My app keeps crashing when I connect the reader

 

I'm new to square, like brand new.  I bought the contactless reader, installed the app, but as soon as I try and pair the reader, the app just closes and doesn't connect.

Things I have already tried:

Uninstalling and reinstalling the app

turning bluetooth on and off

disconnecting the reader from bluetooth

Upgrading my software

Trying it on a different device

 

What other things can I try?

My contact chip reader isn’t recognizing my blue tooth setting. Anybody else have this happen? I’ve been using my reader for a few months and it’s been fine. All of a sudden it says connect Bluetooth to use reader. Bluetooth is connected and working fine.
