Why is 86ing a modifier not available on POS?

We are a busy shop that sometimes runs out of modifier items.  My staff does not have access to my dashboard and there is no way for them to 86 a modifier from the POS. I was excited to receive the nofitication the 86ing modifier items was now available BUT unfortunately not being able to do it from the POS is ridiculous.  Am I missing something?

@smoothville *** Update today 9/6.

 

The beta for modifier 86 capability has finished testing and is being rolled out to everyone.  Look for an update to your POS soon, and there should also be an announcement.  Basically, from your POS when you edit modifier lists, there will be a new toggle to the right of each modifier in a list that you can turn on or off to signify that it is in/out of stock.

 

So, if you don’t have it today, you should have it soon.  Hang tight!

So, after much back and forth with customer support this 86ing items is not working properly.  Modifiers are only able to be 86'd from my dashboard or from the app and can not be done from Square Register. I was told to "have my staff use their phones to access Square App to 86 items" What?? This should be able to be done from the Register.  Next problem is that if I 86 items from the dashboard or the app items are marked out of stock for online but not on the Register so my staff doesn't know what is available and what isn't.  I have been waiting since February to see this go into effect but it isn't beneficial if it doesn't work across all platforms.

Marking items in a modifier group is still not working from the POS for us. What about anyone else?

@smoothville I just checked both the standard POS and Restaurant POS.  It’s there. Are you sure you have the latest versions?

 

 Standard POS 6.24

 Restaurants POS 6.24

 

 Your access the feature from Settings -> Items -> Modifiers on either POS. select a list and you can manage modifier availability.

I guess I must have been using the wrong terminology.   You can not 86 items from the Square Register, is that correct?

@smoothville Since Register can be used with either Square POS or Square Restaurants, I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be there for you.  I’m going to tag an admin from the beta to see what they say, but I wouldn’t expect an answer until Monday, at least.

 

While you are waiting, a couple of questions:

 

  1. Are you using the standard POS in your Register, or the Restaurants POS?
  2. What version of the POS do you have?  From your POS go to More > Support > About.  The version number is at the top.

Hey there @smoothville I am sorry you are having issues 86ing your modifiers from the app. If your app is updated and you have tried signing out/in and are still not seeing the feature then you will need to contact support at 1-855-700-6000 squ.re/contactsqsupport to take a further look.

@MayaP I tried to send you a PM on this, but that’s not working for me again today.  Sigh.  Three weeks ago I asked (in the beta community) if it had been rolled out.  This was the reply from @AdrianaSQ 

 

I can confirm that this functionality has been 100% rolled out, but it might take a few days before it appears on everyone's POS. If there's a seller looking for this functionality, you can certainly mention that it's available and ready for use.”

 

So, in my defense, if it is not out for everyone and if everyone should not have known about it, that’s on Square.

Good to know that everyone is on the same page, then.  I had this creeping fear that I had revealed something I shouldn’t have made public.  NDAs, and all, you know.  LOL. Looks like the misunderstanding was just some miscommunication all around.  That happens sometimes when one hand isn’t fully informed about what the other hand has done.  Whew.
