Why can we create subcategories for our online store but not within our POS?

Greetings! I believe this topic has been discussed before but would like to add our name to those advocating for subcategories within the Square POS and not just for Square Online. We use both the POS and Square Online and have the need for subcategories within both.

 

Within our POS, we sell products that are our own in addition to third-party products that are not our own. These are our 2 parent categories, and we have the need for subcategories (veggie, flowers, herbs, meats, bread, etc.) within both parent categories. The modifier and variation features are not viable options for this, especially to be able to get the most out of reporting. Further, the demonstrated need for them via Square Online should carry over to the need for them in your POS. 

 

Can you explain why they exist for Square Online and not the POS? Thank you

The only thing I can think of is that when online shoppers are looking for an Item to Buy, the website needs to be well organized, but if the retail location does not have a Scanner, a well organized POS would be greatly appreciated and required.  Currently I have over 4000 items, probably 40-50 categories and without a scanner this takes a while to find an item. As with you we have both in house made products and others we buy to resell. We barcode our items to use a scanner and the items we resell either come with barcodes or we make one for them.  We use a scanner and it just pops into the POS checkout screen which I am guessing is Squares logic why Subcategories are not in Square.
