Of course, each business differs regarding which holidays bring in additional revenue vs. which holidays mean less revenue.
For your business/industry, what are the most lucrative holidays, and which are the worst? And why?
This question came to me as our team considered how the days close to July 4 are the worst for our class signups, even worse than around December 25!
Labor Day.... September is a drag for us... with everyone in the NorthEast focused on back to school and back to reality it just stinks.. LOL
good question!
Thanks, @DinaLRosenberg! It does stink, lol
We're using our slow periods as informative and trying to think outside the box about "non-standard" services we could offer during our traditionally slow periods.
Last year, one idea we came up with during one of those periods has turned into one of our highest profit centers. Go figure
That's amazing!
We are constantly creating new offerings and testing them to see what works and doesn't. It's the only way we know how to be- we gotta always innovate.
Our worst would have to be St Patrick's Day if that counts as a Holiday or East Sunday. Here in our vacation spot its right between when people travel here. Not enough Snow for Skiers and the Summer activities are not open yet and the Leaves are not changing for tourist to see like in the Fall.
Hmm, @Candlestore. For your location and business, that makes sense. Slow periods are the worst!
Have you considered any ways to sell beyond the typical customers during the slow season? Maybe online sales for items that remind people of that region, like scents that remind people of the Poconos. That may be silly, but just a random thought. 🙂
Yes we have an online Store and the Vacationers and Customers are aware of this and do order online throughout the year. Just at our Slow Time of the Year also coincides with Our slower Online Time of Year. So yes I agree the Slow times are the worst especially trying to Buy inventory for the upcoming Busy times. lol
4th of July is our slowest. For some reason 4th of July themed clothing just doesn’t sell for us.
Wow, @rtfulk! Just looked at your website. Looks great! One would never guess that for themed clothing, 4th of July would be slow. So interesting and unexpected 🤔
What season sells the most?
Christmas and Mother's Day are our best holidays.
Anything like Labor Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day tons of people are out for the parade right in front of the shop but no one comes in.
I always wondered about situations where a lot of foot traffic is focused on other things. I'm thinking food establishments likely experience it differently from your industry.
