So since November I am having ridiculous reader connectivity issues.
the cheap reader over blue tooth.
my iPad setting say it’s connected but the program says I have to press the button on the reader, so I do and nothing happens. So I exit the program and reboot the program and press the button and nothing.
repeat x 10.
if square think I’m going to waste 15 minutes of my life every morning because they can’t fix the issue they are sorely mistaken.
as usual customer services are no where to be seen and tech help are all but useless.
a shame because tickets and other features in the program are pretty cool.
time to switch permanently to SumUp I think.
Morning @Frothycoffeedud, thanks for your post.
Connectivity issues like this usually come down to out of date software.
Can you check that your iOS is on the latest version (15.3.1) and that your device has the latest version of the Square App (5.85).
Also what model iPad do you have? It would be great to check if it appears on our device compatibility page.
From there, lets try the following steps in order:
Sorry to hear you are running into this issue.
Open Square Point of Sale App:
1) Settings > Hardware > Card Readers > forget all card readers
2. Force-quit Square Point of Sale App
3. Open device settings
4. Navigate to Bluetooth
5. Forget all Square Readers
6. Hold the button on the reader until the lights flash red
7. Reboot the Device
8. Re-launch Square Point of Sale app, wait 1-2 minutes, and re-pair the reader
Ensure that the Square application has permission to access location services "Always" or "When using" - You can find this under device Settings > Scroll down on left side to Square > Location
Make sure bluetooth is toggled off for any device that has connected to the reader in the past.
Hope this helps clear things up. 🙂

NO I will NOT be doing steps 4 to 8 on a sometimes more than daily basis to earn square an extra £600 a year on top of your expensive 1.79%
and as this is not the first issue I have had lately I will use another processor as I started to do today.
thank you for your help but as a street trader who has now taken card payments for 11 years, reliability is key and square no longer is.
What square fails to realise or care about is the rapidly changing ultra competitive market it’s in.
do the maths. Last year I put £61k through square not a huge sum I know but that £610 extra for my money same day is my van insurance,
now I bring high volume low cost sales to the table, I also encouraged customers and friends to use square.
what is square doing for me, now it’s unreliable?
it’s just an expensive, daily anxiety inducing nuisance.
