What Hardware should i get?

We are looking at opening a Retail & Coffee shop, We were hoping to get some recommendations on what hardware we should equip oursleves with. We were thinking of 2 points of sale one for the coffee section and one for the retail. What would you recommend we get? Can we manage both devices from one account how does it work etc?

@DearCoco Welcome to the community. You can manage many devices from one account. The type of hardware you get really depends on what you want or need it to do.  I would say the Square Register or the Square Stand. The register runs around 800.00, it has a front facing display for the customer to see and does not require an iPad. The Square Stand is 149.99 and requires an iPad (extra expense), it does not have a front facing display.  Also I would consider a  receipt printer and cash drawer. You can go to the link below to see what printer and cash drawer are compatible with each piece of hardware.

Hopefully this will help some.

@DearCoco ;

As was mentioned the Register and Stands would be the best devices for actual customer interactions at a Point Of Sale checkout.  All the items Retail or deifferent types of drinks you sell at the Coffee section can be sold through your one account.  Have different Device codes to identify which device sold which items in your backoffice in Square.  As was mentioned each POS device should have a Receipt Printer and a Cash Drawer.  The other thing you may want to look into is a Scanner for your POS especially at the Retail section.  The only other type of Hardware that is required to run ANY Square Pos (Register, Stand, Terminal or Kiosk) would be a strong internet connection through WiFi.  With the register and terminal you would need Internet from a local provider.  With the Square Stand or the Kiosks you could use an Ipad that has its own Cell provider for internet.  The So you would need the internet hardware connection for your business also and to connect to Squares Backoffice through a Web-Browser.

Here was my setup:

  1. 2 Square Stands each also having a Scanner
  2. 1 Shared Network Receipt Printer
  3. 1 Shared Cash Drawer.
  4. Wireless Wifi signal through out the store so I could access Square anywhere with a WiFi tablet. and Square app.
  5. A wired connection to the Receipt Printer so it could be shared

I use this system as I mainly did Credit card Transactions 80-90% of my sales.  Had one set up that we only used CC sales through one pos to keep the end of day cash drawer in check.

Any system your thinking of all your Items can be entered to your Square account through a computer and appear on any Device (POS Kiosk) connected to your account.  Each connected device connects to your Item catalog to look up Item price and Details of the item.   You enter the item name at the POS or a SKU or GTIN and the item appears on your POS, either right into the Checkout cart or you may have to Tap it to place it in the Cart if you have similar items.    My point is you can choose any of the Hardware solutions that is right for your individual shop, and what you want your customers to see as Your pos.    Kiosks might be good for self checkout and Credit Card payments only.  Register is great for having the Customer facing Display and telling customer where to Tap or Dip a chip for Credit card payments.  The Stand is good to keep costs a little lower ( u can get a WiFi Ipad instead of one with WiFi and a sim card with Cell signal).  Both the Square Stand and Register download the App you sign up for with Square (Square, Square for Retail or Square for Restuarants)  All 3 access the same Square catalog but just present it to you in different ways based on the type of business you run.

With either of your 2 POS stations you can sell both items from the Coffee and the Retail items without an issue.

Maybe if you gave an idea of which 2 systems you were looking at we might be able to give a better recomendation and how your customers would interact at each.   The terminal I did not mention too much because I belive that is better for Mobility areas.  Tables at a resturant or at a Flea Market, Outdoor event where you can take the Terminal to the customer.  The two areas you are asking about seem more stationary and a Terminal can be used there, but seems out of place in this setting in my opinioun.
