Subscription paid using button doesn't appear to be registering

I want to allow Subscriptions to be purchased using a button; the Subscriptions page says ‘To start selling subscriptions, first create a payment link’ so I did that, chose ‘create buy button’ and made a payment.

Then I went back to the Subscriptions page and nothing there, though it does appear on the orders & customers lists.

What have I done wrong?

Did you create the subscription as a Payment Link? You should be able to access those from your Square online Square Dashboard >  Payment Links.
