Hi @Ccoossttyy, so sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Square card reader!

Unfortunately, the Huawei P30 Pro is not currently supported by Square. We are a great number of Android devices on the market and we strive to support them all, however, a device can meet all the requirements for compatibility but still not communicate properly with Square hardware.

If you have another device, you can cross-reference it with our compatibility page to check if it's one of the Android devices that we can guarantee will work.

Why won't Huawei p smart 2021 won't work with my card reader. It states its compatible but it is not. This is needed for my business. Please can you get update sorted so that P Smart 2021 will be compatible

Hey @Tomfish,

I've moved your post from our Global community to this thread on our UK community.

Unfortunately the Huawei P30 Pro is not a phone that has been tested as compatible with Square, so your experience using it with Square readers may be hit and miss. It's possible the device may not offer an operating environment secure enough for us to process payments after an update.

One thing I've heard sometimes helps on Huawei phones is to:

  1. Go to Settings on your device.
  2. Tap on More Settings
  3. Disable the button ‘Allow Hisuite to use HDB’.

However this is not a guaranteed fix. Check out our compatibility list to view which devices have been tested as compatible and will work with Square Readers!

Hey @KagzsBathBombs, sorry to hear you are running into this! As the P Smart is on our list of compatible device, is there an error message that you can see when trying to pair the reader? I definitely recommend trying to run though the troubleshooting steps outlined here and see if they would help.

Developer options enabled. I been through with Square Support and Huawei Support and their own support teams can not help me. We gone through each stage and get same results. Even after disabling. In the end yesterday I bought Samsung and downloaded app and it connects to the reader with no issues. I just use pay as you go on this Samsung as it will only be while I am out at Markets and carboots. If Huawei didn't stop using Google play /store it may have worked. But who knows

If you are getting an error message about the developer options, there are some additional steps we could try (in case our Support team haven't run through this yet). After you've disabled the Developer Options, you can also:

  1. Go to the Settings of your Huawei device
  2. Tap on More Settings
  3. Disable the button Allow Hisuite to use HDB.

This usually help with the message above!

Yes we had tried that and nothing changed still same message came up. I just use the spare phone and next upgrade with phone I'll make sure to get one that still uses Google store /play. Thanks for your help though
