Square's New Card Payment Fees

Hi,

Has anyone managed to get an answer from Square on whether the new fee structure is just for online payments? We're a UK hospitality business so have no online sales presence at all. If we're affected, it will VASTLY increase the amount we pay in card fees as they've done it as a slightly reduced percentage of 1.4% plus a horribly regressive "+25 pence per transaction" which is going to crucify small businesses with low ATV. I asked Square support but they either didn't understand or didn't read the email properly.

Apologies if the email we sent out to you or the contact you had with our support team was not clear enough. 

I can confirm that In-Person payment rates (1.75%) are not affected by this change.

Online processing rates will change for the following products: eCommerce APIs and SDKs, Square Online (all plans), Square Online Checkout, eGift Cards, Square Appointments, Square for Retail, Square Subscriptions.

Many thanks for that. So that's an official answer from Square as our card payment services provider, correct? I did try to clarify on the Support chat first and then via email. I sent a second email this morning as I wasn't happy with the initial reply but Support haven't answered just yet. I think maybe Square need to issue a second email on this to clarify as the first one wasn't clear enough, Support failed (twice) to clarify and one of the other Card Payment providers I spoke with said they'd had a lot of contact from businesses who were currently Square customers.

Yes, this would be an official confirmation that In-Person payment rates (1.75%) will not be changing.
