Square register unusable after update ??

Hi we use square register with restaurants. The till has done a update and now we can't use it, we are presented with a black screen with a square logo init. Could anyone advise what to do as we can't get through to support ?

Sorry to hear you ran into this @MJAYS! With the Register, you have access to 24/7 support and can get in touch with our team at 0800 098 8008. 

 

Often, after an update, it can take the Register a few minutes to reboot so you might see a black screen with just the logo. However, you will be able to use Square normally after the update has applied and completed processing. To avoid the Register updating during business hours, we recommend leaving it powered on and plugged it overnight — the Register will automatically update then.

 

If you keep gettin the same screen and are unable to use the register, it's worth running through the troubleshooting steps below to try and perform a factory reset. Please make sure that you have not been taking any offline payments prior to performing the reset:

 

  • Press firmly on the Square Register power button for 20-30 seconds, located underneath the main screen. A screen with a countdown from 10 is going to appear, but keep pressing the power button until the countdown runs down to zero.
  • Once it reaches zero, you will see a screen asking you to release the power button.
  • Once the screen goes dark, leave the Square Register for two to three minutes before turning it back on.
