I'm using a Samsung Tab A7 with 3 gigs of ram. All works fine when I pair the reader, until I open any other app. That's when Square "restarts" it self, and then I have to forget the reader, and repair, EVERY time.
I've noticed the app using over 500 megs of ram, the app uses the MOST ram of any other app I have. I can have a web browser, Gmail, Proton mail and a simple game open and running, and those don't come close to the ram Square eats up.
I've checked every setting on my tablet I can, from battery settings to app updates. No help. The WiFi signal has no effect, as it happens even when I'm home on a very fast network.
Does anyone have a similar issue?
What do you use to run the app? (phone, tablet, laptop) ?
It gets aggravating when you need to look something up for a customer prior to a sale, and it takes 5 minutes to reboot everything for the app to work.
Hello @EB1959 ! Welcome to the Square Community!
I'm betting we're running into an age issue with your A7. From my research, the A7 was made in 2020 and was discontinued in 2023. Usually I'd say that you can get away with using older tech with no issue with Square products, but since this was more of an entry level tablet I can definitely see problems appearing as it ages out. This would include random bluetooth disconnects and crashes.
Unfortunately I think your best bet would be to look at an upgrade. What I did to stay relatively current on hardware is convert my cell plan into a business plan (for me through T-Mobile) and add a line with a tablet onto the account. The new every 2 years plan definitely helps, and through leasing and payment plans I only end up paying around $30 more per tablet per month. Beats shelling out a lot of cash up front for a tablet!
It was actually "new" tablet, all be it from 2020, only had it a few weeks. Returned it today, and getting a Lenovo Tab M10 Plus (3rd Gen) with 4 gigs of ram. It's a 2022, which should still be better than the Samsung, at least I hope!
Wife has a Galaxy Tab A9+ (2024 model) but that's not listed with Square, and I had a new one but sent that back too, couldn't get the reader to work on it.. 1 year old, and it's not compatible ? Oh well, thanks for the suggestion .
