I'm using a square stand with a iPad and case drawer and never had an issues. But in the last week or so i have had so close the square app and reopen it to get it to take a credit card.
Any ideas what is causing this?

I can think of a couple things that may be going on here.
-Make sure your app and iOS are fully updated to the latest versions. Missed updates have a tendency to cause random issues. Also, try turning off any auto locks on the screen.
-Try signing out, force closing the app, then signing back in. That way the app phones home to get the latest information for your account.
-In the upper right of the screen, do you see ✔️Stand or is it errored out (or not there at all) when you notice the swiper isn't working? If it's not checked, there may be a problem with the hardware itself. Give customer support a call: you may be eligible for a warranty replacement.
