Selling Items without Payment to in-house Use

I'm looking for a creative solution. We use the POS station to sell items at our bookstore at the monastery. In addition, we sometimes "sell" an item to one of the monks here. This item has been stocked in our inventory, and we need a way show that it was taken out of inventory, but the transaction wouldn't have any money exchanged. For accounting we need to know that it was removed from inventory, but not actually charge the monk for it.

I've seen some folks suggesting using a gift card account for those types of transactions. Or creating an "other" type of payment. Looking for simple solutions. Most of the answers I found that got close were from at least a year or two ago and I'm unsure how they work on the new systems.

Thanks!

@MonasteryPOS I do this all the time when I give away ice cream, etc, to folks, as well as when I donate a gift card.  I created a discount code for 100% discount, and apply it to any items or to the entire check.   You could call your “Monks” or something creative so that you can run a report showing how much you’ve done this. This will have the effect of keeping inventory without any money trading hands.

I hope this works for you!

@MonasteryPOS I forgot to mention.  When setting up the discount you can, if you want, go into Advanced Settings at the bottom and require a passcode, if you’re worried about people using the discount for all of the best friends! 🤣
