I have a Square Register connected with a wired keyboard.
Whenever a text field appears, the onscreen keyboard appears, hiding half of the screen.
Is this expected behavior? If so, I propose that engineering review the benefits of this decision. If not, what troubleshooting can I do to resolve it?
Thanks!
Hey @BradSC! I had to run this by our Register Team for some clarification. Quick question- do you also have a USB barcode scanner connected?
@nika yes, I do have a USB barcode scanner from your supported products list (waiting on Bluetooth scanner options, these old USB scanners are bulky and... corded).
@BradSC Ahh ok. So here's the scoop:
The onscreen keyboard issue you're seeing is happening because our system can't distinguish USB barcode scanners (which apparently pretends to be keyboards) from real USB keyboards. It makes for a weird experience where the onscreen keyboard is hidden when a barcode scanner is also attached.
Technically, having both connected is a feature request at the moment. I'm glad you brought it up because I was able to flag it to our team. I'll keep an eye on any progress made so I can circle back with you!
@nika @They could code a switch into Settings so we could disable the onscreen keyboard. 😉
Maybe even add a button in the upper menu to show/hide the onscreen keyboard until we tap the button again.
@BradSC For sure! Looks like there's been some tinkering with it in the past so I'm happy we were able to resurface it. I'll let you know what I hear from them. 🙂
