Lately (March/April 2022) at least once a week, always on a week-end when we're very busy, nothing happens when we tap the "charge" button. Square stays on that page and we can not proceed any further. The only solution I found is to force quit the Square App and relaunch it. Of course it is a huge inconvenience and we have to retype the whole order one more time and it's always when we're very busy. There's plenty of memory since we use this iPad pretty much only for Square.
Anyone knows why or even better, how to avoid this problem?
I operate Square on a iPad Model MD785LL/B (iPad Air bought in 2016).
Thank you all,
Thierry
Hi @ThierrLRC - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community.
Sorry to hear you've been having some trouble with the Square Point of Sale app. I know this must cause some frustration for both you and your customers.
From what you've described, it sounds like your iPad could be using an outdated version of the Square app. The latest version on iOS is 5.86. I recommend checking for an update by following the steps listed here.
I hope this information is helpful and is able to resolve the issue but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks for your suggestion. My Square app is up to date, but the suggestion of restarting the iPad regularly did the trick so far.
Hello @ThierrLRC !
Thierry, that's really odd that your system is hanging on the charge button. The first thing I'd recommend is to make sure that your app and iOS are both on the latest and greatest versions. Each iOS version has a tendency to tweak little things on the apps, and Square tries to keep up with version updates. Also, Square has been doing a bit of back end tweaks recently: keeping the app updated can stop random issues.
If the hang still happens after everything is updated, then I'd start to look at your readers: Are you using a Square Stand? Contactless reader? USB cash drawer?
If possible (and I fully get that this only happens in peak times!), disconnect all attached hardware and run a test charge. If all is well, add in each piece of hardware one at a time, checking for charge button issues each time. If one peripheral is the culprit this is the best way to check it out.
Let us know what you find out, and we can point you to the next steps!
Hi
Thanks for your suggestion. Restarting the iPad regularly seems to have done the trick. So far so good.
@ThierrLRC If you are getting these kinds of errors I would do some basic housekeeping so to speak. I would make sure to update iOS to the latest version, and then manually go into the app store and make sure square is up to date. The last bit of preventative maintenance is to make sure to restart your ipad and stand before the shift. I find that doing regular restarts/reboots really improves the stability of the operating systems and apps. I think this is why you see so many developers putting auto restarts on phones an devices to make sure everything is running smooth as butter.
Hi
Your idea of restarting the iPad was genius and seems to have done the trick. It's the old unplug and re plug which I should have thought about. Since the new version of Square everything seems slower and I thought that was a new issue with this version without going out of the box... So thank you!
