During last Thursday's debacle with Square services being down, our two Square Stands (with iPads) went into offline mode. No biggie as we've seen that before when local internet service went down. However, on Friday, two of the offline transactions that were captured had a "card declined" status and did not go through. The two transactions were from regular customers who have used those same credit cards a dozen times in the last few weeks. I asked them both if they saw anything on their card's banking sites regarding the transactions and they did not. On our Square POS, those transactions are now gone - they do not show up in the Transactions list and I can find no record of them other than on the Square Dashboard under the Transaction Status report. I did get emails regarding the declined transactions - the problem is that I can no longer find anything that shows what the transactions included. Does anyone know how to find that out? Both customers said they would be more than willing to come back in and pay for what they got, but neither fully remembers the details (both were food and beverage tabs that were closed at the end of the night on Thursday). Help?
I'd call into support for this. I'm not sure there is a way to see anything on our end and we can't auto retry the transactions. Square should be able to provide you the details of each transaction and maybe even the last four of the card number associated with each so you can make sure your customers are charged correctly.
In Dashboard
> Reports
> Transaction Status
Change the filter to declined an select the time period.
However there is no way to see anymore than the amount! Square will not let me contact the customers that had a declined card during the outage. I can trace the last four digits back to regular customers
learn something new everyday! I had no idea we could see the declined transactions so that you for that!!
Ugh I'm sorry. This would be a great thing for them to implement at least temp. some way for people to contact these customers.
