The cell service at my summer markets is terrible. To try to use offline mode I disable my Wi-Fi and Sims. When I open square it has a red banner with "no connectivity". I enter in an amount and that is when I see the banner telling me in offline mode some payment form won't work. Fine. However the tap to pay and insert card button is frozen every time I try to do this. So I can never take payments offline either. This is a big market and everyone has this issue. We would love to get it solved. Is there a secret way to get into offline mode and actually have it work? Please tell us O Knowledgeable Ones🙏 We are just trying to eek out a meager existence 🫠
Hi @Een1 - I see this is your first post in the Square Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏 Although, I am sorry to hear these issues with Offline Mode is what brought you here 😞 This is certainly not the experience we want for you and other market vendors.
When offline payments are enabled, prior to losing connection, your device will automatically begin an offline session when it loses connection to the internet or to Square’s servers. Offline payments can be enabled during a connection disruption. To get the most out of your offline session, we strongly recommend enabling offline payments prior to losing connection. I recommend doing this before you enter the market, and the environment starts to get noisy. I also recommend making sure you have the latest version of the Square app, to eliminate any issues you could be experiencing due to being on an outdated version.
Give these suggestions a try and let me know if you see any improvement. I'll keep an eye out for your reply!
Hello,
I have had the same issue, and this always happens in areas where I have spotty to no connectivity. This has happened for the past 2 years and I've never seen a reply that actually answers this, so I'm hoping the following helps.
First, I always have my offline payments on, Second, I made sure I have the updated app. But I still get the red bar of no connectivity as well when either I'm out of range of WIFI or if I lose my cell reception.
Recently at a fair, I started with decent cellular connectivity but then during the fair it dropped. It kept giving me an error that it couldn't connect to Square instead of defaulting to offline payments. Some vendors had service, but I'm not sure what carrier they were using but that shouldn't matter, right?
Shouldn't I be able to test offline payment capability by connecting to Square with good cell service or wifi and then when out of range or turning off cell service this should go into off line payment mode but it doesn't. It only shows the red bar, not processing offline payments.
I have tried this with both the correct reader (yes, I bought the updated version) or tap to pay on my phone and it doesn't matter, I get the no connectivity red bar.
Please answer how I can ensure that when connectivity drops, for any reason, that the offline payment mode will start at default. Thanks.
