No way to easily hide category items

Hello,

I have an issue with self ordering and making items visible and invisible.

We have different categories for breakfast and lunch. We don't serve breakfast items at lunchtime.

When we make the category for breakfast hidden at lunchtime, Square successfully removes the Category from the self ordering web page, however all of the items still appear at the end of the self ordering web page for the customers to select.

It would seem that the only way to make items hidden is to update them one by one or by running a bulk upload between breakfast and lunch sessions. This is not viable or desirable for us. We will have to roll back from the self ordering functionality and go back to the 3rd party solution from TapTable if we can resolve this issue.

If anyone has any advice please?

Thanks
Rob

It sounds like you're encountering a specific issue with Square's self-ordering functionality on your website regarding the visibility of items based on categories and time of day. Unfortunately, Square's self-ordering feature may not have built-in functionality to automatically hide or show items based on time or category availability.

However, there are a few potential workarounds or alternative approaches you could consider:

  1. Manual Updates: While you mentioned that manually updating items one by one or in bulk between breakfast and lunch sessions is not viable for you, it may still be the most practical solution within Square's current capabilities. You could designate specific times for these updates, such as during non-peak hours or during a brief maintenance window.

  2. Use Variants or Modifiers: Instead of completely hiding breakfast items during lunchtime, you could consider using variants or modifiers to indicate availability or meal times. For example, you could have a modifier for "Breakfast Only" that appears alongside applicable items during breakfast hours. This way, customers are aware of the availability restrictions without needing to hide items entirely.

  3. Custom Development: If your needs are more complex and require dynamic visibility based on time or other factors, you might consider working with a developer to create a custom solution. This could involve integrating Square's API with your website to implement advanced functionality tailored to your specific requirements.

Which is something I can help you with

Hi @Robatola thanks for flagging this.

I'd be happy to take a closer look into why categories are still appearing for your self-serve orders. Could you share a link to your website here so that I can take a look?
