Hi guys,
We have a cafe, a food store and a homewares store using Square as inventory and POS system.
We now have a new website which was built for us on Wordpress platform (Woocommerce).
I am in a new role and I've searched for answers for days now about what I need to get done.
Now, we have our product range (our brand) that we don't track quantities for on the website already (done by somebody else before I started). We also have this entire range in Square. I can see that SKUs weren't assigned for these on the website because it is irrelevant.
We also sell products by other brands which we have in Square shop and would like to import into the website.
The problem.
We only want to import certain products into the website (Woocommerce or whatever it's called).
We want to be able to update them using Square in the future, if possible.
The product categories are very broad in Square. For example all products that are sold in our retail shop are in the Homewares category. Whereas the main navigation on our website is split into sub-categories. Example: Homewares - kids, tableware, fashion etc.
From what I understood online Square categories need to match Website categories. Does it mean that we will have to recreate the categories on Square end and nest products under relevant categories before exporting data? Will that ensure that the imported into Woocommerce products fall under the right categories within the website structure?
I read online that to import specific products from Square one would need to export the entire thing, edit it and then import in back into Square, then sync somehow with Woocommerce or import it into WC. Then import the original cvs into Square to put all products back into the system.
That sounds so risky to me. Especially because I've never even exported or imported products like that.
So I tried now creating a product in Woocommerce directly but no option to sync that product is showing. In WC manuals it says that you have to enable the general sync between platforms (which in its own is confusing coz there are two options - WC sync and Square sync, and not sure which to choose), but won't that stuff everything up? Won't that sync all products either from Square to WC or the other way around?
The option to sync in WC when creating products is also conditional. Like it won't show as an option if your product has variations, which is bonkers. All in all WC is way too complicated compared to Shopify or Squarespace.
I honestly don't know.
I simply want to import and sync a few products and all future products that we want to sell through both platforms into WC.
Would anyone know how to do this in a simple straightforward way?
I too have been frustrated with the woocommerce/sqyare inventory capabilities..
I don't know why we can't have the option of just syncing by SKU (regardless of category) and indicating which data to sync and in which direction.
It's unusable for me at the moment, for a start my website and square categories do not align.
