Would be really GREAT help if we could have a feature in the loyalty feuture to run campaigns to encourage existing customers to refer us to a friend. i.e they get a personal code belonging to their loyalty profile to pass on to a friend. the friend gets a a reward for booking an appointment and so does the referrer.

While we don't currently offer an official way for automating this, you might find the following features useful for implementing a referral program:
Creating Custom Fields in your Customer Directory
You can now add custom fields when collecting customer information. This feature would be useful for collecting the name/number of a referring customer.
Manually Add Loyalty Points to a Customer Profile
After creating a new customer profile that includes the name/number of a referring customer, you can manually add loyalty points to the referring customer's profile.

I can see how this would make a handy addition to Square Loyalty - maybe we could base it on the one we use at Square for referrals!
While this isn't something I've heard a lot of demand for from sellers, we'll start tracking feedback via this thread from here on.
We are also looking to implement a referral program. In the meantime we are looking at third party options but it would be great to have something similar to what square does where referrals get free processing.
Use case 1: would be a loyalty member can refer a friend with a code and they both receive a discount e.g. 10% off, a gift card, loyalty points etc when they make their first purchase.
Use Case 2: A customer comes in referred by a friend who is a loyalty member. When we select create new customer there is a field that says something like "referring customer mobile number". once entered and new customer profile is created the new customer and referred customer would receive their bonus e.g. 10% off
I would imagine we would have a referrals tab where we could set the discount or rewarded for referring customer and the new customers. Stats for best performing affiliates etc
We operate a local brick and mortar business so word of mouth and referrals are very important and it also encourages customers to bring in additional customers who could then bring in further referrals in a snowball effect.
I feel referrals are an under utilised but very powerful marketing strategy

Thanks @Katie_SQ for your suggestion. However after this request has been raised mulitple times by many many users, it is deplorable that square is still lacking.
Ontop of that, how are small retailers able to easily (& efficiently) manually add special codes for each one different for every customer walking in the fron door? Your suggestion, (as helpful as it's intended) is just as ludicrous as the timeline Square has taken to deliver something so necessary to it's paying customers & users.
