LS2208 Not Scanning UPC/GTIN

Hello! We just received a Zebra/Symbol LS2208 barcode scanner. It seems to scan SKUs fine but not UPCs. We've 'factory reset' everything with no avail. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how'd you resolve it. Is it because we are using both SKUs and UPCs? Is that confusing the POS? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and help resolve our issue.

Hi @guesthouse,

What is your scanner connected to? Like which POS set do you have? Trying to make sure it's compatible with whatever hub you're using.

I'd recommend trying this USB scanner troubleshooting here first.

@guesthouse Can you confirm if your Square Register is running the Square Point of Sale software or the Square for Retail software?

I didnt know this until I experienced the same thing as you -- the Square Register can run both versions. Even if you use/pay for Square for Retail (and enter the GTIN/UPC in the GTIN field and SKU in the SKU field), if the POS version of the software is running on the Square Register, it wont pull in the GTINs you entered on the web/dashboard of Square.

If you're thinking "why not?"... there's not a good reason. I think of this as a bug but Square doesnt.

Even though you pay for Square for Retail and enter the data, the POS versions of the software refuse to recognize the GTIN field. Since Android phone, Android Tablet and Square Terminal dont support the POS version, you're out of luck if you want to use those.

For Apple iPhone, Apple iPad and Square Register, you MUST use the "Retail" version on those devices or it wont be able to scan or lookup a GTIN. I've seen suggestions to put the GTIN in the SKU field, but you'll mess up your data and cause headaches running your business.

Personally, I really enjoyed the ease of use of Square POS on Square Registers because its so easy to train employees. When we switched to Square for Retail on Square Registers, I had to re-train all of my employees and the Register turned from being easy/beautiful to not-as-easy/ugly. 😞
