Itemized Transactions showing as custom amounts

I'm suddenly having a problem with transactions showing up as if a custom amount was typed in rather than an item barcode scanned. I have been scanning items at checkout, and they appear correctly, with the item name, variation, etc. But after the customer checks out, if I go back to look at the transaction it is no longer itemized and shows "custom amount" instead. It doesn't happen with all transactions or with all items. I'm trying to figure out why this happens, and also how I can find out what items were affected so I can make sure my inventory counts are correct.
