Item set-up with multiple variations

Hey guys,

My items come in a few different options and I just cannot work out how to get this set-up in Square Items.

Variation 1 = Handmade or Handpainted

Variation 2 = Size - Mini or Midi

Variation 3 = Range - Currently Christmas or Summer range, and within that is different colours.
Variation 4 = Santa, Olaf, Santa little helper etc.

I cannot work out the easiest way to set this up.

Do I do 'Range' as the item and then a variation of:

  • Handmade or Handpainted
  • Size
  • Colour?

any advice is welcomed - I feel like I am going around in circles.

Hey @Pinkhouse-Emily,

Thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you're actually trying to track too many different item permutations by using variations of a single item. Item variations should only be one of what you've listed there, eg Size variations would list all your sizes:

Once you decide your variation is "size", you can't add different variation sets. For a given item you'd need to create the variation as variation 1, or variation 2 or variation 3 or variation 4. It can't be more than one of these per item.

It sounds like you'd need to build out more separate items to work with under different categories rather than have all those options on one item that you can modify for that many variables.

If you can give me an example/screenshot of what you're selling here I can give a suggested way to break them down into categories, items, variations and modifiers 🙂
