Is there a way to prevent reloading of existing gift-cards?

Our non-profit has outstanding gift cards through Square.  We don't like the new 'reload' fee that Square has introduced, so we would like to prevent any existing cards from being reloaded.  Is there a way to do this.

I know this is can be frustrating.

Currently, Square does not offer a direct way to disable the reload feature for existing gift cards through their platform. However, there are a few steps you can take to manage this situation:

  1. Communicate with Your Customers:

    • Inform your customers that reloading of gift cards is no longer available. You can do this via email, signage at your location, or notifications on your website and social media channels.
  2. Monitor and Manage Reloads:

    • Regularly monitor your Square Dashboard for any reloaded gift cards. If you notice a reload, you can manually refund the reload amount and communicate with the customer about the policy change.
  3. Contact Square Support:

    • Reach out to Square Support directly to discuss your concerns and see if they can offer any solutions or workarounds specific to your non-profit's needs. While there may not be an automated feature to prevent reloading, they might be able to provide some assistance or guidance.
  4. Consider Alternative Gift Card Solutions:

    • If the reload fee is a significant issue, you might want to explore alternative gift card solutions that better align with your non-profit's budget and requirements. Some third-party providers may offer more flexible terms and integration with your existing Square setup.

Unfortunately, Square's built-in settings don't allow for the prevention of gift card reloading directly, but taking these proactive steps can help manage the situation.

I hope this helps! 🙂

They profit every time it happens so they won't allow you to turn it off.
