Is there a setup process for newly purchased Square Readers if I already have a Square account?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Damaged Reader.

My Reader was damaged. If I purchase a new one will it work immediately because I already have an account?

Yes, since you already have a Square account, you should be able to purchase a new Square Reader and connect it to your device, provided your device is compatible.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Check your device's compatibility on this page.
  2. If your device is compatible, you can purchase a Reader from the Square Shop.
  3. To connect your new Reader to your device, follow the setup instructions in this Support Centre article


You might also want to check out Tap to Pay on iPhone or Tap to Pay on Android, which allows you to accept payments from a compatible mobile device without additional hardware.
