Is the CC pre-authorization feature already in production?

Hello team, 

I was wondering if the CC or Card Pre-Authorization feature is already in production, since I read a thread from 2023 stating it was in the Future Requests list. Has it been approved/rolled out for production?

Hello @atlasepoxywork !

 

Yes, credit card preauth has been rolled out, but it is limited to the Square for Restaurants environment.

Hello, @LSPA 👋 Thank you for your post.

 

I went ahead and merged your post to an existing thread where another Square Seller recently asked a similar question. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future. 

 

In addition to the information that our Square Champions, @ryanwanner and @alexandriak, shared, you can also utilize the Open Ticket feature if you aren't already (More on that here). Open Tickets allow you to create, edit and save an order before completing the sale at a later time. You can use this in combination with charging the customer card if it's on file with your business, as Alexandria mentioned.

At this time, I don't have an ETA on if and when card preauthorization will be available outside of Square for Restaurants. Once we have more details, we'll be sure to share them in a Product Update here on the Square Community, similarly to the update we did for Restaurants here. Be sure to keep an eye on our Product Updates board! 👀

Thank you for the update. My environment is a regular one (store) so most likely is not gonna work for me? I gotta try per the instructions you mentioned, will give an update in this thread though.

Just as I thought, I am not even presented with the options as shown on the Video 😥. I guess I have to request them to roll out for every other type of business/account. 🤓

Is pre-authorization an option available in regular Square POS? I saw it was added to Restaurant POS. We want to use it for providing services when done at client’s location.

You can offer your customers the ability to save a card on file. You can turn this setting on via invoice, or add a card to your customer's profile manually by going to menu, customers, finding your customer, and scrolling down until you see saved cards area.
