I have been using Square to accept card payments. I would also like to track inventory using Square, but am not sure how to do what I want. I sell pottery/ceramics items, and most often they are one of a kind. I currently have an inventory number, which I then write down at POS and subtract from my Excel spreadsheet when I get home from my market. Is there a way to enter the inventory numbers and product descriptions (pictures?) into Square, and then enter the number at the POS and have the cost come up for customer payment? And then will it show that item as sold in my inventory?
I'm guessing this is an easy answer, but I've read many articles and watched some videos and haven't found the answer yet. Thank you!
Yes you can do that, but it would be alot of work for 1 item.
Here is how:
You can enter Quantity of 1, and for Item name you can enter Item 1, then when a buyer comes up with the item you can search for 1 just beaware all items with a "1" in the name or sku will appear for you to choose the correct one. You could name the pottery something Like Mug or Dish or Statue of etc.... then in the SKU field type in a number but have it start at 10001 for example then it will not give you so many of the same items.
I use to use "16oz French Vanilla" for a SKU for my candle that was a 16oz French Vanilla scent.... Now if all your items are similar but unique like a 12oz coffee mug .... you could name it 12 oz coffee mug and give it a Sku of 12345 and place 12345 on the mug with a sticker so when the buyer brings it up you know the SKU is 12345 and type that in for Square to look up the price and remove it from inventory.
The time consuming part will be adding the picture to each item.
I have been thinking abou this and how to help you the easiest way.
When you make an item give it a Code # or what ever you like. When you enter the Item in Square, Name it wolf then your Code #, or if you can enter the Code Number in as the SKU. The SKU can be both letters and numbers, but Square only sees the letters as capital or Lower case letters, I forget which it is. So to Square an a45 = A45, just so you are aware of this. Some of my items have abarcode that I scan and then also a 6 digit model number. I put the 6 digit number in as part of the name if the Barcode ever becomes damaged.
Now when creating the item also make sure you turn on Inventory Tracking, it is just a Toggle switch, Blue is on. By doing this you will automatically keep track of your Stock levels and if you use the same Code for the same item you can see how many Wolves for example you sell. Also if you make different types of ceramic items you can have them in categories and slowly reduce time making low sellers.
