I am trying to figure out why orders taken at the register do not show up in any of the order screens for our restaurant. We mainly do online orders for take-out due to COVID but are now starting to take some walk-in orders. When we take those orders the ticket prints and the order is displayed on our kitchen display (kds) screen, but they never show up in our orders at the front register where they were taken.
We are able to see the transaction but not the order. So if we need to reprint a ticket for any reason or if the customer calls back later about their order we simply cannot find the details of what they ordered.
Please help me understand why and how to remedy it.

When Square first started, the online ordering world was pretty much nonexistent, so the Point of Sale was designed to be a one-and-done kind of experience for the merchants. Now that so many of the orders are coming in online, Square has had to tweak things a bit to make it all work. What you're seeing is actually by design at the moment.
You can get around it though by enabling Order Creation at the register.
On your Point of Sale, go to Settings -> Orders -> Order Creation and Enable Order Creation At Checkout
There will be a new button on your main checkout screen called Schedule. If your team uses this button you can essentially create an online order right from your Point of Sale. You will need your customer's name to make an order. Every order placed via scheduling will then show up in the Orders section of your register.
Please note if you use Dining Options the Order Creation option won't be available.

Hi, we also are experiencing this issue. There is so way to track in-person orders in a sea of 100 online orders. Do you have a solution? The order creation tab doesnt work that well as a work around because you have to add a customer and their email for some reason, which is extremely laborious and none of our customers want to give their email. Thanks
Any update here, it seems you can't even do order creation with Square for restaurants. The only feature I need is for in-person orders to show in the orders tab that taken on square register using square for restos.
