How to make customer name a required field at checkout

When customers are checking out on our online store, the customer name is not being captured by the system. So we are getting orders without knowing who placed them. How do I fix this?

Hey there, @MassaoCF

I want to ask a couple of things, so I can get the picture of what you're seeing.

So whenever Online Orders come in, you noticed there are some showing without names on the orders, correct? Is it a larger number of orders?

I will keep an eye out for your reply👀

I am having this same issue.  When a customer places an order on my website (all my items are pickup at my home) I only see their email address and phone number.  I get an email saying "You received an order!" and a copy of the email that the customer received.  In the "Personal Information" section of the email it will list the person's zipcode, email address and phone number and that is it.  Sometimes I can figure out the person's name from the email address, but most often not.  How can I remedy this?

Thanks for posting, @HbMegs 👋

Are you using the emails for your order management, or do you also view the Orders page in the Square Online dashboard?

Can you post a link to your website so we can take a look at your current checkout page flow?

Thanks in advance!

I had not been using the Orders page at the time of question.  I do see now that the customer's fill name is in there.  What I had been doing is printing each order confirmation email I received and putting it with the product the person would be picking up, so I had each order matched with its item.  (Problem being, the order confirmation (AKA their receipt) doesn't have the person's name on it, so without taking the extra step of manually going to the separate order page I don't know the person's name.

I don't currently have any pickup items, but I left old ones active on site so you can see how people checkout for their cookie pickups. I'm just a small cottage baker, so have to create work arounds on several set-ups, since I don't have "inventory" per say, and mostly bake on demand, or get pre-orders for sets so I know how many to make, which is what I have showing online for teacher appreciation.   handmadebymegs.square.site

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! And yes, this does make sense. 🤔 Hmm.. let me do some more digging to see if something changed. It's been awhile since I made a test order, but I do recall more information being included in the order confirmation email.

Thank you for looking in to this. Here’s an example of what it

looks one from my end. This is the “You got an order” email I get from Square that says it is a copy of the email my customer gets. Under personal info, there is no name.

I just found some test emails from two years ago, and it doesn't look like we ever included the customer name in the order confirmation emails. This would be considered a feature request at this time.

For now, you could add a text modifier to the items requesting the name so that it shows up under the item. Or, you could enable the "note to seller" option and add verbiage in the pickup instructions to make sure to include the name for the order.

If I think of any other work arounds, I'll let you know! 😊
